Title: Exploring Weekend Activities and Hobbies

Grade Level: 1st Grade

Objective: - To introduce and discuss various activities and hobbies that students can engage in during the weekend. - To encourage students to explore and participate in different activities and hobbies for personal growth and enjoyment.

Materials: - Chart paper - Markers - Pictures or flashcards representing different activities and hobbies - Construction paper - Glue sticks - Scissors

Procedure:

  1. Introduction (5 minutes):
    • Begin the lesson by asking students about their favorite activities or hobbies.
    • Discuss the concept of weekends and explain that weekends are a time when people have free time to engage in activities they enjoy.
    • Share some examples of activities and hobbies that people often do during the weekend.
  2. Brainstorming Activity (10 minutes):
    • Create a chart on the chart paper titled “Weekend Activities and Hobbies.”
    • Ask students to share their ideas about different activities and hobbies they can do during the weekend.
    • Write down their responses on the chart paper.
    • Encourage students to think beyond common activities and hobbies, such as reading, playing sports, drawing, etc.
  3. Activity Exploration (15 minutes):
    • Show pictures or flashcards representing various activities and hobbies.
    • Discuss each picture with the students, explaining what the activity or hobby is and how it can be done.
    • Encourage students to ask questions and share their thoughts about each activity or hobby.
    • Display the pictures or flashcards on a bulletin board for reference.
  4. Art and Writing Activity (15 minutes):
    • Distribute construction paper, glue sticks, and scissors to each student.
    • Instruct students to choose one activity or hobby from the bulletin board that they would like to try during the weekend.
    • Have students cut out the picture or flashcard of their chosen activity or hobby and glue it onto their construction paper.
    • Ask students to write a sentence or two describing why they are interested in trying that particular activity or hobby.
    • Allow students to share their artwork and sentences with the class if time permits.
  5. Conclusion (5 minutes):
    • Recap the different activities and hobbies discussed during the lesson.
    • Encourage students to try new activities and hobbies during the weekend and share their experiences with their classmates.
    • Emphasize the importance of finding activities and hobbies that bring joy and personal growth.

Extension Activity: - Encourage students to create a weekend activity or hobby journal, where they can document and reflect on the activities they try each weekend. - Provide opportunities for students to share their journal entries with the class during weekly sharing sessions.
