Title: Introduction to Volleyball
Grade Level: 6th Grade
Objective: - To introduce students to the basic skills and rules of volleyball - To develop teamwork and communication skills through cooperative play - To promote physical fitness and coordination through active participation
Materials: - Volleyball - Cones or markers - Whistle - Whiteboard or chart paper - Markers or chalk
Warm-up (5 minutes): - Begin with a light jog around the gym or designated area to warm up the muscles. - Followed by dynamic stretches such as arm circles, leg swings, and lunges.
Introduction (5 minutes): - Gather students in a circle and introduce the topic of the lesson: volleyball. - Discuss the basic rules and objectives of the game. - Explain the importance of teamwork and communication in volleyball.
Skill Development (20 minutes):

Passing: - Divide students into pairs and provide each pair with a volleyball. - Demonstrate proper forearm passing technique, emphasizing a flat platform with hands and using legs to generate power. - Have students practice passing back and forth to each other, focusing on accuracy and control. - Circulate and provide individual feedback and guidance.

Setting: - Gather students in a circle and demonstrate proper setting technique, using fingertips and a soft touch. - Have students pair up again and practice setting to each other. - Encourage students to communicate with their partners and provide positive feedback.

Serving: - Set up a serving line using cones or markers. - Demonstrate the correct serving technique, including a toss and a firm contact with the palm of the hand. - Allow students to take turns serving from the line, focusing on accuracy and consistency. - Provide feedback and suggestions for improvement.
Game Play (15 minutes): - Divide the class into two teams and set up a small court using cones or markers. - Explain the rules of the game, including serving, passing, and setting. - Encourage students to use the skills they have learned during the game. - Emphasize teamwork, communication, and good sportsmanship.
Cool Down (5 minutes): - Lead students through a series of static stretches, focusing on the muscles used during volleyball. - Discuss the importance of cooling down to prevent muscle soreness and injury.
Closure (5 minutes): - Gather students in a circle and review the key points covered in the lesson. - Ask students to share their favorite part of the lesson and what they have learned. - Encourage students to continue practicing their volleyball skills outside of class.
Assessment: - Observe students’ participation and engagement during skill development and game play. - Provide individual feedback and guidance during skill practice. - Assess students’ understanding of the rules and techniques through verbal questioning during closure.
