Title: Introducing Other People

Grade Level: 2nd-3rd

Objective: Students will be able to introduce other people using appropriate language and manners.

Materials: - Pictures of different people - Whiteboard and markers - Flashcards with phrases such as “Nice to meet you” and “This is my friend”

Procedure:

  1. Begin the lesson by asking students if they have ever met someone new before. Ask them how they introduced themselves and how they felt during the introduction.

  2. Show pictures of different people and ask students to describe them. Ask them if they know any of the people in the pictures.

  3. Explain to students that when we meet someone new, we need to introduce ourselves and the other person. Write on the board: “Hi, my name is __. This is my friend ____.” Model this for the students.

  4. Give each student a flashcard with a phrase such as “Nice to meet you” or “This is my friend.” Have them practice saying the phrases with a partner.

  5. Divide the class into pairs. Give each pair a picture of a person. Have one student introduce the person to their partner using the phrases they practiced.

  6. After each pair has introduced their person, have them switch pictures and repeat the activity.

  7. As a class, discuss the importance of using manners and appropriate language when introducing other people.

Assessment: Observe students during the activity to ensure they are using appropriate language and manners when introducing other people. Have students complete a worksheet where they draw a picture of themselves and a friend and write a sentence introducing their friend.

Objective: Students will be able to introduce other people using appropriate language and manners while also demonstrating cultural awareness.

Materials: - Pictures of people from different cultures - Whiteboard and markers - Flashcards with phrases such as “Nice to meet you” and “This is my friend” - Cultural awareness handout

Procedure:

  1. Begin the lesson by asking students if they have ever met someone from a different culture before. Ask them how they introduced themselves and how they felt during the introduction.

  2. Show pictures of people from different cultures and ask students to describe them. Ask them if they know any of the cultures represented in the pictures.
