Title: Introducing Other People
Grade Level: 2nd-3rd
Objective: Students will be able to introduce other people using appropriate language and manners.
Materials: - Pictures of different people - Whiteboard and markers - Flashcards with phrases such as “Nice to meet you” and “This is my friend”
Procedure:
-
Begin the lesson by asking students if they have ever met someone new before. Ask them how they introduced themselves and how they felt during the introduction.
-
Show pictures of different people and ask students to describe them. Ask them if they know any of the people in the pictures.
-
Explain to students that when we meet someone new, we need to introduce ourselves and the other person. Write on the board: “Hi, my name is __. This is my friend ____.” Model this for the students.
-
Give each student a flashcard with a phrase such as “Nice to meet you” or “This is my friend.” Have them practice saying the phrases with a partner.
-
Divide the class into pairs. Give each pair a picture of a person. Have one student introduce the person to their partner using the phrases they practiced.
-
After each pair has introduced their person, have them switch pictures and repeat the activity.
-
As a class, discuss the importance of using manners and appropriate language when introducing other people.
Assessment: Observe students during the activity to ensure they are using appropriate language and manners when introducing other people. Have students complete a worksheet where they draw a picture of themselves and a friend and write a sentence introducing their friend.
