In summary, the Department of Government Law and Justice Services of the Ministry of Justice has been successfully carrying out its tasks and responsibilities in the first 6 months of the 2016 fiscal year. Thirteen work units have been organized under the department to ensure efficient functioning. The sector’s plan performance for the 2015 budget year was evaluated, and a plan preparation committee was established to prepare the 2016 plan. The plan was then implemented and discussed with employees to ensure its successful execution.
The Directorate General of Civil Justice Administration has been actively involved in various civil activities, making decisions on contested records and resolving disputes. Out of 157 directly contested records, decisions were made on 33 records, with the Attorney General being satisfied with 31 records. One record was discontinued at the plaintiff’s request. This resulted in a performance rate of 93.94% and a cost saving of 32,368,571.29 birr.
Furthermore, the department successfully defended against a $10.6 million lawsuit in the United States. In terms of appeal records, 39 records were disputed, with 17 records having the prosecutor as the appellant and 22 records with the prosecutor as the respondent. Out of the appellant records, 05 records received a decision, with four prosecutors being satisfied and one record being rejected. The performance rate for the appellant records is 80%. For the respondent records, a decision was made on 11 records, with the prosecutor failing in one case. The performance rate for the respondent records is 90.91%.
