Title: Presenting Written Research Methodology

Grade Level: 7th Grade

Competency: Presenting Written Research Methodology

Lesson Duration: 60 minutes

Materials Needed: - Whiteboard or blackboard - Markers or chalk - Handouts with sample research methodologies (optional) - Chart paper and markers (optional)

Lesson Objectives: 1. Understand the purpose and importance of presenting written research methodology. 2. Identify the key components of a research methodology. 3. Develop effective strategies for presenting research methodology orally.

Lesson Procedure:

  1. Engage (5 minutes):
    • Begin the lesson by asking students if they have ever conducted research or written a research paper.
    • Discuss the importance of research methodology in any research project.
    • Explain that today’s lesson will focus on how to present written research methodology effectively.
  2. Explore (15 minutes):
    • Introduce the key components of a research methodology, such as research questions, data collection methods, and data analysis techniques.
    • Provide examples of research methodologies from different fields (e.g., science, social studies, literature) to help students understand the diversity of approaches.
    • Discuss the importance of clarity, organization, and logical flow in presenting research methodology.
  3. Explain (15 minutes):
    • Break down the process of presenting research methodology into seven essential steps, known as the 7E’s:
      1. Engage the audience: Begin with an attention-grabbing introduction to capture the listeners’ interest.
      2. Explain the research topic: Provide a brief overview of the research topic and its significance.
      3. Enumerate research questions: Clearly state the research questions that the study aims to answer.
      4. Elaborate on data collection methods: Describe the methods used to collect data, such as surveys, interviews, or experiments.
      5. Examine data analysis techniques: Explain how the collected data will be analyzed to draw conclusions.
      6. Evaluate limitations: Discuss any limitations or challenges faced during the research process.
      7. End with a conclusion: Summarize the main points and emphasize the importance of the research.
  4. Elaborate (20 minutes):
    • Divide students into small groups and provide each group with a sample research methodology.
    • Instruct the groups to analyze the sample and identify the seven essential steps (7E’s) used in presenting the research methodology.
    • Ask each group to present their findings to the class, discussing how effectively the sample research methodology was presented.
  5. Evaluate (5 minutes):
    • Facilitate a class discussion to reflect on the importance of presenting research methodology clearly and effectively.
    • Ask students to share any challenges they faced while analyzing the sample research methodologies.
    • Provide feedback and address any misconceptions or questions.
  6. Extend (optional):
    • Assign students to individually prepare a short oral presentation on a research methodology of their choice.
    • Encourage them to incorporate the 7E’s and present their research methodology to the class in a future lesson.
  7. Evaluate (5 minutes):
    • Conclude the lesson by reviewing the key points covered during the class.
    • Assess students’ understanding through a brief quiz or exit ticket, asking them to identify the seven essential steps (7E’s) of presenting research methodology.

Note: The lesson duration can be adjusted based on the pace and needs of the students.
