Learning Intention: Students will understand the mechanics of a basic wrestling shot.

Objectives: 1. Students will identify the three differently levels of wrestling shots. 2. Students will understand the preparation involved with a wrestling shot. 3. Students will be able to demonstrate a basic wrestling shot correctly.

Materials: mats and space to move

Warm Up (10 Minutes): Begin by having the students stand in a circle. Go around the circle and have each student give a definition of a wrestling shot. Afterwards have a discussion about the different types of wrestling shots and the levels of difficulty associated with each shot.

Instruction (10 Minutes): Explain to the students that there are three levels of difficulty for a wrestling shot; beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Show the students diagrams and/or videos of each of the shots and explain the preparation involved. Have the students practice the preparation, emphasizing the importance of keeping the body low and ready to move.

Practice (20 Minutes): Have the students practice the three levels of shots setup on the mats. Start with the beginner shot and have the student’s practice for 5-7 minutes. Have them go through the motions and give feedback on their technique. Once the students feel comfortable, have them move on to the intermediate and advanced shots and practice for 5-7 minutes each. After they feel comfortable with the setup, they can practice doing the shots at full speed.

Review (5 Minutes): At the end of the practice have the students go back in a circle and discuss what they have learned. Ask them questions about the levels of difficulty, the preparation involved, and the correct technique.

Assessment: Have each student demonstrate the three levels of wrestling shots and evaluate the student’s technique and understanding of the shot.
