Materials: - Whiteboard - Whiteboard markers - Worksheet of 2 digit maths problems with answers

Lesson:

  1. Opening:
    • Discuss the importance of mastering basic arithmetic, especially addition, in everyday life.
  2. Instruction:
    • Introduce the concept of “adding two digit numbers with a sum of 20 or less”
    • Write an example problem, such as 9 + 11 =, on the whiteboard.
    • Ask students to solve the problem together.
    • Ask for student to explain their thought process as they solve the problem.
  3. Guided Practice:
    • Provide students with a worksheet of 2 digit maths problems with answers.
    • Encourage students to work together to answer the problems, discussing their thought processes and strategies.
    • As a class, work through the answer key together.
  4. Independent Practice:
    • Give students more 2 digit maths problems with answers for them to try independently.
