Conclusion

Why do you think shadows change height during different times of the day?

Shadows change height during different times of the day because the position of the sun changes. When the sun is lower in the sky, shadows are longer and taller. When the sun is higher in the sky, shadows are shorter and smaller.

Extension Activity

Create a shadow clock:

  • Place a stick or a pencil in a sunny spot outside.
  • Mark the position of the shadow every hour for a day.
  • Observe how the length and direction of the shadow change throughout the day.
  • Record your observations in a chart or a journal.

Assessment

Ask the students to write a short paragraph explaining how shadows are formed and why they change height during different times of the day.
