Learning intention: Students will understand how to use layers within Adobe Photoshop

Lesson:

Introduction (5 minutes):

Welcome students and introduce the learning intention: Today we will be learning how to use layers within Adobe Photoshop. Explain what layers are and why they are important to use in creating design and imagery.

Explain (15 minutes):

Explain what layers are and review some of their functions including layering, stacking and masking. Show examples of how layers can be used to create a complex design or imagery. Give an overview of the tools that are used for layers such as the blend modes, layer styles, and layer adjustments.

Demonstration (10 minutes):

Demonstrate how to create a layer, move and place layers, and change layer properties. Show examples of how layers can be used to create a complex design or imagery.

Practice (20 minutes):

Have the students practice creating layers, moving and placing layers, and changing layer properties. Assign each student a task to do using layers, such as creating a scene with separate elements on different layers or retouching a photo using layers.

Reflection (5 minutes):

Have the students discuss what they have learned and reflect on the task they were assigned. Ask the students what they still need to learn about layers, and how they can use layers in their work in the future.
