Introduction (10 minutes): 1. Begin the lesson by asking students if they have ever heard of a SWOT analysis. Explain that a SWOT analysis is a tool used to identify an organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. 2. Ask students why it is important for an organization to conduct a SWOT analysis. Discuss how it can help an organization make informed decisions and develop strategies to improve its performance. 3. Introduce the learning intention for the lesson: to develop an in-depth analysis of an organization’s strengths, weaknesses, available resources, and work potential.
Body (40 minutes): 1. Divide students into groups of four. 2. Distribute the handout with a case study of an organization to each group. 3. Instruct each group to read the case study and identify the organization’s strengths, weaknesses, available resources, and work potential. 4. Encourage students to use the SWOT analysis tool to guide their analysis. 5. After 20 minutes, ask each group to share their findings with the class. 6. Write the strengths, weaknesses, available resources, and work potential of the organization on the whiteboard. 7. Facilitate a class discussion on the findings. Ask students to identify common themes and patterns in the analysis.
Conclusion (10 minutes): 1. Ask students to reflect on what they have learned about analyzing an organization’s strengths, weaknesses, available resources, and work potential. 2. Discuss how this analysis can be used to develop strategies to improve an organization’s performance. 3. Assign students to write a short reflection on the importance of conducting a SWOT analysis for an organization.
