Lesson Title: Exploring the Elements of Science

Learning Intention: Students will be able to identify and describe the basic elements of science.

Introduction (10 minutes): - Begin the lesson by asking students what they know about science. Write their responses on the board. - Explain that science is the study of the natural world and how it works. It is based on evidence and observation. - Introduce the concept of elements and explain that just like there are elements in the periodic table, there are also elements in science.

Body (30 minutes): - Divide the class into small groups and provide each group with a set of cards that have different science-related words on them (e.g. hypothesis, experiment, observation, data, conclusion, theory, etc.). - Instruct the groups to sort the cards into categories based on the elements of science. Encourage them to discuss and justify their choices. - Once the groups have finished, have them share their categories with the class and discuss any differences or similarities. - Introduce the four basic elements of science: observation, hypothesis, experiment, and conclusion. Define each element and provide examples. - Have students work in pairs to create a mini-experiment using the four elements. They can choose any topic they are interested in (e.g. plants, magnets, sound, etc.). - After the pairs have completed their mini-experiments, have them share their findings with the class and discuss how they used the elements of science.

Conclusion (10 minutes): - Review the four basic elements of science and ask students to explain how they used them in their mini-experiments. - Ask students to reflect on what they learned about the elements of science and how they can apply this knowledge in future science investigations. - End the lesson by revisiting the initial list of what students knew about science and asking them to add any new information they learned.
