Procedure:

  2. Analytical Listening Strategies (10 minutes) a. Introduce and explain the following analytical listening strategies:
    • Active Listening: Encourage students to focus on the speaker, maintain eye contact, and provide verbal and non-verbal feedback.
    • Asking Clarifying Questions: Teach students to ask questions to gain a deeper understanding of the problem or situation.
    • Identifying Key Information: Emphasize the importance of identifying and extracting essential details from the information provided.
    • Recognizing Different Perspectives: Discuss the significance of considering multiple viewpoints to gain a comprehensive understanding of the problem.
  3. Problem-Solving Scenarios (20 minutes) a. Divide the class into small groups or pairs. b. Distribute problem-solving scenarios to each group. c. Instruct students to read the scenario carefully and employ analytical listening strategies to solve the problem. d. Encourage students to actively listen to their group members’ ideas, ask clarifying questions, and consider different perspectives. e. Monitor the groups and provide guidance as needed.

  4. Group Presentations and Reflection (10 minutes) a. Ask each group to present their problem-solving approach and solution to the class. b. Facilitate a class discussion by asking the following questions:
    • How did analytical listening help you in solving the problem?
    • Did any group encounter challenges while employing analytical listening? How did you overcome them?

  5. Conclusion (5 minutes) a. Summarize the importance of analytical listening in problem-solving situations. b. Reinforce the strategies discussed and encourage students to practice analytical listening in their daily lives. c. Provide feedback and commend students for their active participation.
