Lesson Title: Introduction to Educational Technology
Grade Level: 6-8
Learning Intention: Students will be able to identify and describe the technology being introduced in the classroom, including smartboards, Chromebooks, and the Learning Management System (LMS).
Materials: - Smartboard - Chromebook - Access to the Learning Management System (LMS) - Handout with definitions and descriptions of each technology - Whiteboard and markers
Introduction (10 minutes): 1. Begin by asking students if they have ever used any technology in the classroom before. 2. Ask them to share their experiences and how it helped them learn. 3. Explain that today’s lesson will be an introduction to some new technology that will be used in the classroom.
Direct Instruction (20 minutes): 1. Display the handout with definitions and descriptions of each technology on the smartboard. 2. Go through each technology one by one, explaining what it is and how it will be used in the classroom. 3. Ask students to take notes on each technology as you go through them.
Guided Practice (15 minutes): 1. Pass out Chromebooks to each student. 2. Have them log in to the Learning Management System (LMS) and explore the platform. 3. Ask them to find and complete a short quiz on the LMS. 4. Walk around the room and assist students as needed.
Independent Practice (15 minutes): 1. Have students work in pairs to create a short presentation on one of the technologies introduced in class. 2. They should include a brief description of the technology, how it will be used in the classroom, and any benefits or drawbacks they can think of. 3. Students can use the Chromebooks and smartboard to create their presentations.
Closure (5 minutes): 1. Ask students to share one thing they learned about the technology introduced in class today. 2. Remind them that these tools are meant to enhance their learning experience and encourage them to use them to their fullest potential.
Assessment: Students will be assessed on their ability to identify and describe the technology introduced in class through their notes and presentation. The completion of the LMS quiz will also serve as a form of assessment.
