Learning Intention: To understand and use different types of questions in English.
Introduction (5 minutes): Begin the lesson by asking the students what they know about questions in English. Write their responses on the board. Then, explain that questions are an important part of communication in English and that there are different types of questions that are used for different purposes.
Body (25 minutes): 1. Types of Questions: Explain the different types of questions in English: - Yes/No Questions: These questions are used to get a simple answer of “yes” or “no”. For example, “Do you like pizza?” - Wh- Questions: These questions begin with words like “what”, “where”, “when”, “why”, “who”, and “how”. They are used to get more information about a topic. For example, “What is your favorite color?” - Tag Questions: These questions are added to the end of a statement to confirm or clarify something. For example, “You like ice cream, don’t you?”
-
Forming Questions: Explain how to form questions in English: - Yes/No Questions: To form a yes/no question, invert the subject and auxiliary verb. For example, “You like pizza” becomes “Do you like pizza?” - Wh- Questions: To form a wh- question, begin with the wh- word and invert the subject and auxiliary verb. For example, “You are going to the store” becomes “Where are you going?” - Tag Questions: To form a tag question, add a tag to the end of a statement. The tag should be the opposite of the statement. For example, “You like ice cream” becomes “You like ice cream, don’t you?”
-
Practice: Provide the students with a worksheet or activity to practice forming different types of questions in English. For example, give them a list of statements and ask them to turn them into questions.
Conclusion (5 minutes): Review the different types of questions and how to form them. Ask the students if they have any questions or if there is anything they would like to review. Encourage them to practice forming questions in their everyday conversations.
