Objective: Understand the start of World War 2

Materials: -Timeline of World War 2 -Pictures of the era -List of countries involved -Questions for discussion

Introduction (5 minutes): Introduce the topic of World War 2: explain to the students that this was one of the most devastating conflicts in history and discuss how it affected people’s lives. Point out that this lesson plan is designed to help students understand the start of World War 2.

Developing Understanding (40 minutes):

Step 1: Begin by introducing the timeline of World War 2 and discussing the major events that took place during this time.

Step 2: Show the students some pictures of the era, either online or displayed in a slide show. Talk about the political and social atmosphere of the time.

Step 3: Introduce the students to the list of countries involved in the conflict. Talk about how borders were shifting, countries were being divided, and alliances were being formed between certain countries.

Step 4: Ask the students a few questions about the start of World War 2 such as: What were the main causes of the conflict? Who were the main countries involved? What were the main battles that took place during this period?

Conclusion (5 minutes): Discuss the general ideas that the students have learnt during the lesson. Encourage them to share any questions they have, and to continue researching on their own.
