Objectives:

By the end of this session, adults will be able to: 1. Develop a better understanding of their purpose 2. Research and understand different jobs that align to their interests 3. Provide feedback about a job’s fit for them

Materials: -Computer with internet access -Printed handouts related to purpose and job options

Activity: 1. Begin by discussing the concept of purpose. Explain that it is the reason someone exists and the thing they are most passionate about in life. Ask adults to take 5 minutes to brainstorm what they think their purpose is.

  1. After 5 minutes, ask adults to share their thoughts and ideas with the group. Try to make connections with other adults’ responses.

  2. After the discussion, hand out the printed materials related to different jobs and industries. Ask adults to spend 15 minutes researching possible job opportunities that align to their purpose.

  3. After 15 minutes, ask adults to break out into smaller groups and discuss the different job options they researched. Have them provide feedback on what type of fit the job would be for them.

  4. End the session by having adults share with the larger group their feedback on the different jobs they researched.

Conclusion:

By taking the time to delve into their own purpose, adults can gain a better understanding of how their interests and passions align to potential job opportunities. By having them provide feedback on the fit of a job, they can better understand which opportunities may be better suited for them as they navigate their career path.
