Title: Christmas Traditions Around the World

Objective: To develop speaking skills in a 3rd-grade ESL learner (A1 CEFR level) by discussing Christmas traditions from different countries.

Procedure: 1. Warm-up (5 minutes): - Greet the students and ask them how they celebrate Christmas in their own country. - Write their responses on the whiteboard or chart paper.

  1. Introduction (5 minutes):
    • Show pictures or flashcards of Christmas traditions from different countries.
    • Ask the students if they recognize any of the traditions and if they know which country they belong to.
    • Briefly explain that Christmas is celebrated differently around the world.
  2. Main Activity - Christmas Traditions Around the World (25 minutes):
    • Divide the class into small groups of 3-4 students.
    • Give each group a set of pictures or flashcards representing different Christmas traditions.
    • Instruct the students to discuss the pictures within their group and guess which country each tradition belongs to.
    • Encourage them to use simple sentences like “I think this tradition is from…” or “This tradition looks like it is from…”
    • Circulate among the groups, providing assistance and guidance as needed.
    • After 10-15 minutes, bring the whole class together and ask each group to share their guesses and reasons for their choices.
    • Confirm the correct answers and provide additional information about each tradition and country.
  3. Wrap-up Activity - My Favorite Christmas Tradition (10 minutes):
    • Ask each student to think about their favorite Christmas tradition.
    • Provide sentence starters such as “My favorite Christmas tradition is…” or “I like (tradition) because…”
    • Give each student a chance to share their favorite tradition with the class.
    • Encourage other students to ask questions or share their thoughts about the tradition.
  4. Conclusion (5 minutes):
    • Recap the main points discussed during the lesson.
    • Ask the students if they learned anything new about Christmas traditions around the world.
    • Praise their efforts and participation.
