Title: Building Resilience with Pete the Cat
Age Group: Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Objective: To help children develop resilience and a growth mindset through the story of Pete the Cat.

- Whiteboard and markers
- Paper and pencils
- Pete the Cat coloring sheets

Introduction (10 minutes):
- Gather the children in a circle and introduce the book Pete the Cat.
- Ask the children if they have ever faced a difficult situation or challenge. Encourage them to share their experiences.
- Explain that today, we will be learning about resilience and how to overcome challenges just like Pete the Cat.
Main Activity (30 minutes):
- Read the story of Pete the Cat to the children, stopping at key points to ask questions and encourage discussion.
- After reading the story, ask the children to think about how Pete the Cat showed resilience throughout the story. Write their ideas on the whiteboard.
- Discuss with the children how they can show resilience in their own lives. Encourage them to share their ideas and write them on the whiteboard.
- Give each child a Pete the Cat coloring sheet and ask them to color it in. While they are coloring, ask them to think about a challenge they have faced and how they can show resilience in that situation.
- After they have finished coloring, ask the children to share their thoughts with the group.
Extension Activity (20 minutes):
- Give each child a small ball of playdough and ask them to create something that represents resilience to them.
- Encourage the children to share their creations with the group and explain why they chose to make that particular object.
Conclusion (10 minutes):
- Recap the main points of the lesson, emphasizing the importance of resilience and a growth mindset.
- Ask the children to share one thing they have learned about resilience today.
- End the lesson with a positive message, such as “Remember, just like Pete the Cat, we can overcome any challenge if we keep trying and never give up!”
