Month 1:
-Topic Introduction: Introduce the Solar System and its planets to the children. Include the names and features of each planet (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune)
-Gathering Data: Have the students complete research to find out the physical characteristics of each planet. For example, students can research what the planets are made of, their size, distances from the Sun, and rotations around the Sun.
-Exploring the Planets: After collecting data, have the students create models or pictures of each planet. Have them discuss any similarities or differences between them.
Month 2:
-Discussions: Have the students discuss the similarities between the planets and the differences between them. Discuss which planets are the closest to the Sun, furthest from the Sun, smallest, and largest.
-Role Play: Have the students plan a role play where they act out the journey from Earth to another planet. This will help them to visualise the distance between planets and how long such a journey would take.
-Compare and Contrast: By now, the students should have a good understanding of the solar system. Have them draw a Venn diagram to compare and contrast two of the planets.
Month 3:
-Conclusion: Summarise the topics discussed over the three months and have the students demonstrate their knowledge by writing summaries of the topics discussed.
-Test: Give the students a quiz or test to assess their understanding of the solar system.
-Extension: If necessary, provide extra activities such as researching other information about the planets or creating stories/plays/poems about their journey through the solar system.
