Lesson plan:

Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to use short division to divide a 3-digit number by a single-digit number.

Materials: Whiteboard and markers, worksheets/notebooks, multiplication table, manipulatives (optional).

Step 1: Introduction (5 minutes) - Ask the students if they know what division is. - Explain that division is splitting a quantity into equal parts. For example, if you have 8 cookies, you can divide them into 4 equal parts: 8 ÷ 4 = 2 - Emphasize that today we will be learning how to do short division with 3-digit numbers.

Step 2: Modeling (15 minutes) - Demonstrate the process of dividing a 3-digit number by a single-digit number. - Break the problem down step-by-step as you work through it on the whiteboard. - Have the students follow along with their worksheets and/or notebooks so they can take notes. - Once you have completed the example, have the students practice the problem and call on a few different students to demonstrate that they understand the process.

Step 3: Guided Practice (10 minutes) - Give the students some additional problems to work on, either individually or in pairs. - Provide support as needed, either through individual questioning or by referring the class back to the modeled problem. - Have the students work through the problems, and ask for volunteers to explain the method they used to solve them.

Step 4: Independent Practice (10 minutes) - Give the students a worksheet that requires them to practice short division with 3-digit numbers. - Provide help as needed, but allow the students to work through the problems independently. - Encourage the students to think back to the modeling and demonstration from the beginning of the lesson to help them work through the problems.

Step 5: Closure (5 minutes) - Ask the students if they have any questions or comments. - Make sure they understand the concept of dividing 3-digit numbers by single-digit numbers. - Ask the students to share what they have learned with one another. - Summarize the lesson and explain that they will have more practice with this skill in the near future.
