Title: Zoe’s Arrival on Eel Island
Characters: Zoe - a young girl from Norwich Munchkin - a short and chubby boy Spat - a tall and skinny boy Dooby - the leader of the group
Scene 1: (Zoe enters the stage, looking tired and scared. She is carrying a backpack and a map.)
Zoe: (to herself) I can’t believe I made it to Eel Island. The flood in Norwich was terrible. I hope I can find some help here.
Munchkin: (enters the stage, followed by Spat and Dooby) Hey, who are you? What are you doing here?
Zoe: (surprised) Oh, hi. My name is Zoe. I came from Norwich. It’s being flooded.
Spat: (sarcastic) Wow, you must be a great swimmer to get here.
Dooby: (laughs) Yeah, how did you get here, Zoe?
Zoe: (defensive) I walked and took a boat. It wasn’t easy.
Munchkin: (teasing) You must be lost. This is Eel Island. No one comes here.
Zoe: (confused) But I saw your island on the map. I thought I could find some help here.
Dooby: (serious) Help? What kind of help?
Zoe: (explaining) I need a place to stay and some food. I don’t have anywhere else to go.
Spat: (skeptical) Why should we help you? You’re a stranger.
Dooby: (deciding) Alright, Zoe. We’ll let you stay for a while. But you have to follow our rules.
Zoe: (grateful) Thank you. I promise I’ll be a good guest.
Scene 2: (Zoe is sitting with Munchkin, Spat and Dooby. They are eating fish and chips.)
Munchkin: (friendly) So, Zoe. What do you like to do?
Zoe: (smiling) I like to read and draw. And I love animals.
Spat: (surprised) Animals? We don’t have any animals here. Except for eels.
Dooby: (warning) And you better stay away from them. They’re dangerous.
Zoe: (curious) Why are they dangerous?
Dooby: (explaining) They’re slippery and slimy. And they can electrocute you.
Zoe: (amazed) Wow, I’ve never seen an eel before. Can I see one?
Munchkin: (excited) Sure, we can take you to the eel pond. But you have to be careful.
Spat: (joking) Yeah, don’t fall in. The eels will eat you.
Dooby: (laughing) Don’t listen to him, Zoe. We’ll show you around tomorrow.
Zoe: (happy) Thank you. I’m looking forward to it.
(They finish their meal and go to sleep.)
End of play.
