Good morning everyone! Today we are going to be learning about the use of capital letters in written language.

First, let’s talk about why capital letters are important. Capital letters can help to make what we write easier to read and understand. They help to differentiate between words, and can make writing more professional or formal.

Now, let’s talk about how and when to use capital letters. Capital letters should be used at the start of a sentence and for proper nouns. Propr nouns are the names of people, places, or things.

For example: John lives in New York City.

The name John and the place New York City both start with a capital letter.

There are also some other situations in which we would use capital letters. These include: - At the start of a quotation - For an abbreviation - To start abbreviated titles - To start addresses and months of the year

Let’s practice using capital letters. Take out a piece of paper and pencil and write a sentence of your own using at least two instances of proper capitalization.

Now let’s talk about when not to use capital letters. Generally, we do not capitalize after a semicolon or when listing words.

Okay, everyone, now you know when and how to use capital letters. Please be sure to keep this information in mind when writing and proofreading your own work.

Any questions? Great! Are we all ready to continue with the rest of our lesson? Let’s get started.
