  1. Begin by introducing the phrases “Wie heisst du?” (What is your name?) and “Ich heisse…” (My name is…). Write these phrases on the board or display them on a screen for students to see.

  2. Model the pronunciation of the phrases and have students repeat after you. Encourage them to practice saying their own names using the phrase “Ich heisse…” and their name.

  3. Divide the class into pairs or small groups. Instruct students to take turns asking each other “Wie heisst du?” and responding with “Ich heisse…” followed by their name. Encourage them to use proper pronunciation and to listen carefully to their partner’s response.

  4. After a few minutes, introduce the next question: “Woher kommst du?” (Where are you from?). Model the pronunciation and have students repeat after you.

  5. Instruct students to continue their conversations, but now they should ask each other “Woher kommst du?” and respond with “Ich komme aus…” followed by their country or city of origin. Encourage them to ask follow-up questions if they are unfamiliar with the place their partner mentions.

  6. After a few more minutes, introduce the next question: “Wo wohnst du?” (Where do you live?). Model the pronunciation and have students repeat after you.

  7. Instruct students to continue their conversations, but now they should ask each other “Wo wohnst du?” and respond with “Ich wohne in…” followed by their city or town of residence. Encourage them to ask follow-up questions about their partner’s neighborhood or living situation.

  8. Finally, introduce the last question: “Wie alt bist du?” (How old are you?). Model the pronunciation and have students repeat after you.

  9. Instruct students to continue their conversations, but now they should ask each other “Wie alt bist du?” and respond with “Ich bin…” followed by their age. Encourage them to ask follow-up questions about their partner’s birthday or favorite age-related activities.

  10. After 10 minutes, bring the class back together and have a few volunteers share what they learned about their partners. Encourage students to use the phrases they practiced during the warm-up exercise.
