Title: Two-Person Relay Race

Grade Level: 4

Objective: Students will work in pairs to complete a relay race, practicing teamwork and communication skills.

Materials: - Cones to mark the start and finish lines - Stopwatch or timer - Relay race equipment (e.g. baton, beanbag, ball)

Procedure:

  1. Divide the class into pairs and have them stand at the starting line.
  2. Explain the rules of the relay race: each pair will work together to complete the race, with one student running while the other performs a task, and then switching roles until they reach the finish line.
  3. Demonstrate the task that the students will perform (e.g. passing a baton, carrying a beanbag, dribbling a ball).
  4. Start the race and time each pair as they complete the course.
  5. Encourage students to communicate with their partner and work together to complete the race as quickly as possible.
  6. After each pair has completed the race, have them switch partners and repeat the race.
  7. Discuss with the class how working together and communicating helped them complete the race faster.

Assessment: Observe students as they work together and communicate during the relay race. Use a rubric to assess their teamwork and communication skills. Ask students to reflect on their experience and share what they learned about working with a partner.
