Kensuke explains that he has been living on the island for many years and has made it his home. He tells Michael that he was a famous artist in his past life but chose to leave civilization behind and live in solitude on the island. Kensuke also reveals that he has been surviving by fishing and growing his own food.

Michael is relieved to have found someone else on the island and asks Kensuke if he can stay with him. Kensuke is hesitant at first but eventually agrees, warning Michael that he must follow his rules and respect his privacy.

Over the next few days, Michael settles into life on the island. He helps Kensuke with various tasks, such as fishing and collecting firewood. Kensuke teaches Michael survival skills and shares stories about his past life as an artist.

As the chapter comes to a close, Michael reflects on his new life on the island and the friendship he has formed with Kensuke. He is grateful for the chance to start over and hopes that one day he will be able to return home.
