Materials: - PowerPoint presentation on the Mughal Empire - Primary sources related to the Mughal Empire (e.g. paintings, letters, documents) - Handout with questions for analyzing primary sources - Map of the Mughal Empire - Whiteboard and markers

Procedure:

Introduction (10 minutes): 1. Begin by asking students what they know about the Mughal Empire. Write their responses on the whiteboard. 2. Explain that the Mughal Empire was a powerful empire that ruled India from the 16th to the 19th century. 3. Show students a map of the Mughal Empire and point out its key features (e.g. major cities, rivers, regions).

Body (40 minutes): 1. Use the PowerPoint presentation to provide an overview of the Mughal Empire, including its origins, key rulers, religion, culture, and achievements. 2. Divide students into small groups and distribute the primary sources. Instruct them to analyze the sources using the handout with questions. 3. After 20 minutes, have each group share their findings with the class. 4. Facilitate a class discussion on the impact of the Mughal Empire on India and the world. Encourage students to draw connections between the Mughal Empire and other historical events or empires.

Conclusion (10 minutes): 1. Summarize the key points of the lesson. 2. Ask students to reflect on what they learned and how it connects to their understanding of world history. 3. Assign a short writing assignment in which students reflect on the significance of the Mughal Empire and its legacy.
