Chapter 1: Today was the day we finally arrived in Venice. I have heard stories and seen artwork of this vibrant place but the reality is beyond my expectations. Everywhere I look there is a challenge, be it cultural, architectural or the language. There are so many canals and bridges, beggars and merchants, lights and colours. I have been here for only a few hours but already I am so taken by this place.

Chapter 2: We are staying at a small inn just off the main street near the wharf. The conditions are simple, but the amenities are sufficient. We are warmly greeted by the innkeeper and because we have paid in advance, there have been no questions asked. Although we have not experienced all that Venice has to offer, the small corner of the city we have explored to this point has already impressed us.

Chapter 3: We have already met so many interesting people who, after some warming up and exchanges with their own language, showed us around the area and shared stories of their lives in Venice. We have begun to feel as though we are becoming part of, and not just visitors to, the community here.

Chapter 4: The food is a feast for the senses. From the main course to the dessert, everything is cooked with respect and without cutting corners. I have found myself become more daring, as I can now stomach things I had refused a few days ago. The cuisine is unlike anything I had ever tasted and a real pleasure to sample.

Chapter 5: The night life is like nothing I have ever seen. The city at night is an enchantment of music, art, stories and culture. We have wandered the narrow alleys and discovered small restaurants, shops and galleries all lit with a candle light giving the streets an fairy-like atmosphere.

Chapter 6: We have encountered some less desirable characters, of course, in the off-street corner, where fire shows and knife tricks are presented. This is to be expected however and was mostly just a distraction. We quickly moved away and returned back to the main areas, with no harm done.

Overall, our time in Venice so far has been one of amazement and wonderment. We will have to have the courage to explore more and even expand our boundaries further if we intend to get a true feeling of this remarkable city.
