Chapter 1:
April 21, 1768
We have finally arrived in Venice! the sun is shining, the sights are breathtaking and the locals are friendly, so far. We took a gondola up the Grand Canal and saw Verona Basilica, the Campanile of St Mark’s and, of course, the magnificent Doge’s Palace. The streets are so narrow and the buildings are ornately decorated, making the whole city seem so surreal. It’s amazing how much history a city of this size can contain!
We were welcomed by our host, Signora Sabato, who showed us to our lodging for the next few days. She seemed pleasant, and gladly offered her hospitality. We shall be staying in a suite on the fourth floor of the landmark Rialto Palazzo. We understand it was designed by a famous Venetian architect, and we definitely appreciate the craftsmanship.

Our first full day in Venice was truly incredible. Despite having the chance to take in the splendor of the city, we started the day with a tour of the Doge’s Palace. It was breathtaking and could easily be mistaken for a garden of heaven. After the tour, we walked across the Arsenale Bridge and took an hour-long gondola ride, which gave us a wonderful view of the canals and their intricate bridges.
Our tranquil evening was spent on the Lido, the city’s beach. This place has a calming atmosphere and it felt amazing to be here and take in the fresh ocean air.

Today we took a walk towards the Piazza San Marco and saw several attractions along the way. From a visit to the Basilica San Marco to one of the bridges over the Grand Canal, it was an incredible day. The view of the canal and the bridges was truly magnificent.
The weather is perfect and all the locals we have encountered have been so welcoming and kind. Venice is becoming an ideal place to travel.

This morning we went to the Jewish Ghetto and it was really interesting to see a different, unique side to the city. We also got a chance to tour San Giorgio Maggiore and, surprisingly, we found a lot of similarities with our own city of Amsterdam.
In the evening, we visited the Teatro La Fenice and saw a wonderful show. It was a truly magical experience and the performers were excellent.
Chapter 5:
April 25, 1768
Today we went to the Venetian Arsenal and watched some of the construction of ships. It was amazing to see how these ships are built and how much work is put into the building process.
Happy and satisfied, we went back to the Rialto Palazzo and had dinner on our rooftop terrace with Signora Sabato. It was a wonderful evening spent watching the sun set behind the Venetian skyline.
