He can also draw or build something and then identify what it is. In terms of literacy skills, Weston is becoming aware that some words start with the same letter and he can identify separate words in sentences. He is also starting to recognize and name some uppercase and lowercase letters. Weston knows some features of a book and can indicate where to start reading and which direction to follow. He can ask and answer questions about a text and describe the action using pictures. Weston is also beginning to retell stories and provide details from nonfiction texts using pictures or props. In terms of writing skills, Weston can write mock letters or letter-like forms. He is also starting to use drawing, dictation, and letter strings to convey a message. In math, Weston is beginning to count verbally up to 20 and accurately count objects from 10 to 20. He understands that the last number tells how many objects there are. Weston can also identify numerals up to 10 and connect them to counted objects. He is starting to use positional words to indicate location, direction, and distance. Weston can also create and extend simple repeating patterns.
