Self-driving vehicles, also known as autonomous vehicles, are becoming increasingly popular in the automotive industry. These vehicles are equipped with advanced technologies such as sensors, cameras, and artificial intelligence that allow them to operate without human intervention. While self-driving vehicles offer numerous benefits such as increased safety, reduced traffic congestion, and improved fuel efficiency, they also pose significant security challenges. The security issues of self-driving vehicles have become a major concern for manufacturers, regulators, and consumers alike. This paper aims to explore the security issues of self-driving vehicles and their potential impact on society.

According to a study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), cybersecurity is one of the most significant security challenges facing self-driving vehicles (NHTSA, 2016). Hackers can exploit vulnerabilities in the vehicle’s software and gain control of the vehicle, putting the passengers and other road users at risk. Another security issue is the potential for data breaches. Self-driving vehicles collect vast amounts of data, including personal information about the passengers, which can be stolen by cybercriminals (Kshetri, 2018). Additionally, self-driving vehicles can be used as a weapon for terrorist attacks, as they can be programmed to crash into specific targets (Kshetri, 2018).

In conclusion, the security issues of self-driving vehicles are complex and multifaceted. While self-driving vehicles offer numerous benefits, they also pose significant security challenges that must be addressed. Manufacturers, regulators, and consumers must work together to develop robust security measures that can protect self-driving vehicles from cyber threats and ensure the safety of passengers and other road users.
