Title: A Joyful Celebration of Baptism for Year One Children

Opening Prayer: Loving God, we gather here today to celebrate the gift of baptism. We thank you for the opportunity to come together as a community and witness the beginning of a special journey for these Year One children. Bless us with your presence and guide us as we embark on this joyful celebration. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Introduction: Good morning, Year One children! Today, we have gathered to celebrate the beautiful sacrament of baptism. Baptism is a special ceremony where we welcome new members into God’s family. It is a time of joy, love, and new beginnings. Let us listen attentively and participate with excitement as we learn more about this wonderful sacrament.

Reading: Reader 1: “Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’” (Matthew 19:14)

Reader 2: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)

Explanation: Teacher: Baptism is a special ceremony where water is used to symbolize the washing away of sins and the beginning of a new life with God. It is a way for us to show our love and commitment to Jesus. Just as Jesus loves and welcomes children, we too are called to love and welcome one another.

Renewal of Baptismal Promises: Teacher: Year One children, today we will renew our baptismal promises. Please respond with “I do” after each question.

Teacher: Do you believe in God the Father, who created the world and loves us all? Children: I do.

Teacher: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, God’s Son, who came to save us and show us how to love? Children: I do.

Teacher: Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, who helps us to understand God’s love and guides us in our daily lives? Children: I do.

Teacher: Will you promise to love and follow Jesus, and to show His love to others? Children: I do.

Blessing of the Water: Teacher: Let us now bless the water, which will be used for the baptism. Water is a symbol of cleansing and new life. As we bless this water, let us remember our own baptism and the love of God that surrounds us.

Prayer of Blessing: Teacher: Loving God, we ask you to bless this water. May it be a sign of your love and grace. May it remind us of our baptism and the new life we have in you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Baptism: Teacher: Now, let us witness the baptism of our Year One children. As they are baptized, let us pray for them and welcome them into God’s family.

Closing Prayer: Loving God, we thank you for the gift of baptism and for the new life it brings. We pray for these Year One children as they begin their journey with you. May they always feel your love and guidance in their lives. Help us to support and encourage them as they grow in faith. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Closing Song: Sing a joyful song of celebration together, such as “This Little Light of Mine” or “Jesus Loves Me.”

Note: This liturgy can be adapted and expanded upon to suit the specific needs and traditions of your faith community.
