Grade Level: Year 1

Objective: Students will be able to identify primary and secondary colors and create a color wheel.

Materials: - White paper - Pencils - Crayons or colored pencils - Scissors - Glue

Procedure:

Introduction: 1. Begin the lesson by asking students if they know what colors are and how they are used in art. 2. Show them examples of different artworks that use colors and ask them to identify the colors they see. 3. Explain that today, they will be learning about primary and secondary colors and creating their own color wheel.

Activity: 1. Give each student a white paper and a pencil. 2. Ask them to draw a large circle in the center of the paper. 3. Instruct them to divide the circle into six equal parts using a ruler or by freehand. 4. Write the names of the primary colors (red, blue, and yellow) in three of the sections. 5. Ask the students to use their crayons or colored pencils to color in the sections with the primary colors. 6. Explain that secondary colors are created by mixing two primary colors together. 7. Ask the students to mix the primary colors together to create the secondary colors (orange, green, and purple). 8. Write the names of the secondary colors in the remaining three sections. 9. Instruct the students to color in the sections with the secondary colors. 10. Cut out the color wheel and glue it onto a piece of construction paper.

Closure: 1. Ask the students to share their color wheels with the class. 2. Review the primary and secondary colors with the students. 3. Encourage them to use their new knowledge of colors in their future art projects.

Assessment: Observe the students as they create their color wheels and assess their ability to identify primary and secondary colors. Evaluate their completed color wheels for accuracy and neatness.
