Today, I’m thrilled to be able to talk to you about Sir Donald Bradman, one of Australia’s most beloved cricket players. On the 27th of November this year, we will be celebrating the centenary of his birth.
Sir Donald Bradman is considered by many to be the greatest cricketer of all time, having achieved an extraordinary feat in his 20 years of Test and first-class cricket. He held the record for having the highest batting average in Tests and is still regarded as one of the all time greats of the sport.
During his career, he hit 6996 runs in 80 innings, with a batting average of 99.93. He was a legend of the sport, bringing joy to cricket fans around the world. He also captained Australia in their 1938 tour of England and remained an ambassador for the sport until his death in 2001.
An annual award for the leading batsman in the Sheffield Shield, named in honour of Sir Donald, exists today and will continue to be presented each year.
So, today, I would like to encourage each of you to think about the role models in your life and how you can strive to achieve the same level of greatness. Sir Donald Bradman is proof that through dedication and hard work, anything can be achieved.
